Summer Solstice Updates

  •  Tis the season of graduation parties, esp. when you have a graduated senior.  We went to several as a family, LG went to a couple with friends, we hosted one for LG.  It was my once-a-decade big party.  The weather was perfect.  It was 90% outdoors, though I kept food on our sunroom (with windows/doors open).  It was about as COVID-safe as a large party can be in these times.
  • Speaking of:  Tiny Boy is now boosted!
  • I have dropped my work this summer down to mornings.  At some point I might go back to full days (~6 hrs) on two different projects.  Mostly I am realizing the extent of my burnout (combo of pandemic and admin and loss of real sabbatical).  And also I don't have fulltime childcare this summer (Tiny Boy is in a patchwork of camps for 2/3 of the summer, but some are only half day, and even the 'whole' day ones only go until 3....and then he has evening sports).
  • Case in point:  yesterday, I drove TB to the west side of town for tennis at 9:00.  Wrote stuff/ ate breakfast at a diner.  Then moved to the library on that side of town.  Drove him home at 11:30.  Got him lunch and accompanied him across the street for pet/yard care gig.  Drove him to the north side of town for different camp at 2 pm and myself to a PT appointment on the south side of town.  Picked up sandwiches, picked up LG and Tiny Boy's baseball gear from home, picked up Tiny Boy from camp north side.  Drove to baseball east side.  Watched baseball game.  Got ice cream more north east.  Home for bed routine.  The drive to and from PT put me over the edge.  And when I signed TB up for afternoon camp, I did not notice the location (assumed it was at location within 3 minutes drive of our house).  We will have one other week like this one, but fortunately that week a buddy is going to afternoon camp so we can prob car pool.  And baseball will be done next week.
  • The PT is for my hip pain, which they say is trochanteric bursitis.  But basically all my leg muscles are crazy tight, my core is weakish, and I am misaligned.  I'm sure the past ~2.5 years of stopping yoga + pandemic + rapidly approaching fifty did not help.
  • Along with slowing down work, I am also not reading much.  I mean, I'm reading work related stuff and self helpy nonfiction stuff, but not novels.  I think it has to do with time of day.  But the time night rolls around--which is when I'd be inclined to read novels--I put Tiny Boy to bed and watch TV with LG if LG is home and solo if not.
  • LG is working night shift at the local hospital and that has been an adjustment for all parties in our household.  They are mostly enjoying it and making great money.   And they are as quiet as can be when they are awake at night on "days off," though I woke up about 1 am yesterday to the rattling of pans and the scent of garam masala.  (Yes, middle of the night cooking lessons!)  It is equally challenging for Tiny Boy to be quiet when LG is sleeping.
  • I think that's about all?  Hoping for good news on the promotion and book manuscript fronts here in the next few weeks....
