Grumpy Wednesday

So winter break is over, and yet I feel like I didn't get a break, because literally I was doing committee work (two straight days of interviews, followed by multiple days of ongoing email drama, followed by another two hour meeting in person yesterday).  And because of that, I haven't finished the work that was supposed to be done two weeks ago.

I did manage to start working on Shiny New Project yesterday, and will go to the library shortly to return all the old books it is clear I don't need to have on my shelves right now because that's space that could be better allocated to Shiny New Project.

And I've been messing around with InDesign to finish this book project, but I don't have a decent quality image for the cover, which is on LG's computer.  So that needs to wait, too, even though I have an appointment with the library book design person this afternoon.

But I'm tired, because Tiny Boy woke at 1:00 (blanket problem) and 4:00 (bedwetting problem) and at that point I started mentally spinning about #1 and the unsatisfactory resolution thereof.  And the tiredness makes it hard to focus on Shiny New Project and all the work I could be doing, or even the housecleaning.  (Mostly when I'm this tired I don't want to do anything at all except sit in my bed, so perhaps I should just acknowledge that desire and watch a movie.  Since I actually have not yet had a day that I (a) have been 'off' and (b) actually had childcare).  Grrr.

Like I said, grumpy Wednesday.

  1. I'm sorry you're having a grumpy day. I returned to work yesterday from 10 days off work -- the last time off I will get until at least late summer -- and I am no less tired, and got no more accomplished, than on the last day I worked. So I feel you.

  2. In a similar boat. After I sent everyone off to school and was about to go take a shower and head to work, I realized all I was capable of is sleep. And I slept for another 4 hours. (It doesn't help that I cannot get a good night sleep since my husband's snoring had become unbearable, and now he also coughs all night. Even with ear plugs it's loud noises in my ear all freakin' night.) It's ridiculous that I lost the whole day, but I feel so much better.

Then I wake up to an email thread (a colleague forwarded it to me) in which the department chair apparently completely circumvented me with changes to a large required course which I introduced years ago, and asked for input of everyone who teaches that course now except for me before undertaking the course change. I got to write to him how I thought it was "cute" he chose to cut me out of this discussion. Unprofessional, but deeply satisfying. I am teaching 2:30 MWF this semester which means I will get to miss all faculty meetings. Thank heavens. I need a break from all my colleagues, especially the chair.
