Well, Hello 2017!

I don't know about y'all but last night felt a bit Y2K (and I needed to explain to LG what the hype was all about.  "I don't get it.  Couldn't you just restart all the computers?")  Still, there was some levity, Chez Gwinne, involving a dance party, featuring Twenty-One Pilots (good lord, I've had enough), "We Are the Champions" (I don't know why Tiny Boy knows this), a fair amount of Madonna (circa 1993), and Sia for good measure.  We also ate way too much junk food:  Chicago mix popcorn, Red Vines, and jelly beans (that had to be generic, NOT Jelly Belly because apparently LG is boycotting because they are homophobic).  After Tiny Boy went to bed, LG and I watched Sully in my bed, although I would have preferred a Star Wars film fest in honor of Carrie Fisher. Wow, 2016 sucked there at the end.

We are having a pajama day today. LG is still sleeping (it's 10:46), Tiny Boy has every toy imaginable on the living room floor, and I've been playing with my new planner.  I've been using Moleskine weekly versions for eons, but this year I decided to get an extra large.  I'd like to make a concerted effort to make more art this year, so I pasted some coloring pages in unused parts (like the list of international dialing codes which I will NEVER use).

Other things I'd like to do more of in 2017: trying out new recipes, listening to audiobooks/podcasts, reading fiction.  I'd also like to learn more about film and visual studies; not sure if I'll ask a colleague or just figure things out on my own.  Once the kids head back to school (tomorrow for Tiny Boy, Tues for LG), I need to come up with a reasonable research/writing plan, as well as a workable daily schedule. I still haven't really put fall semester to bed (I have an essay revision due Jan 6 that will probably/realistically require an extension, and ongoing search committee drama) but am excited to work on new projects in a systematic way.

I'm being beckoned to play trains.  More soon.

  2. Apparently. The kid spends a lot of time on the internet and has all kinds of factoids.
