It hasn't really been the winter break I'd planned. While I did accomplish/complete some of what I wanted--including binge-reading some novels, baking, "de-cluttering" around the house, running random errands that never get done during the semester, and watching quite a lot of TV and movies (Ferdinand with Tiny Boy, The Last Jedi with LG, The X-Files on my own)--the dead cat situation has had a big impact on all of us. I think we're over the worst of it, but Tiny Boy starts up periodically with his expressions of sorrow. I worry more about LG, who is prone to keeping herself shut up, except for occasional sobbing episodes and general moodiness (that seems to go beyond the usual teenage moodiness). I suspect we'll be acquiring a kitten soon.
I will, as per my usual routines, probably make a cocktail and work on my planner tonight. I ended up purchasing another Moleskine (this time, the Pro version I haven't used before) mostly because all the other options I was considering were not perfect either (too small, too prescriptive, unattractive cover, etc etc etc). I'll add some hand-drawn layouts and trackers from other planners (like maybe the 30-day challenges) and experiment with pens to combat bleed-through. I also found some coloring stickers (who knew?!) and will include a few here and there to add a splash of color and creativity (I keep trying adult coloring books but don't have time/inclination to color entire pages).
I've been contemplating some of what's worked in my life and some of what I'd like to work on, because that's how I get this time of year (although I do wonder about all the self-improvement impulses). This year saw the publication of a long-overdue project (yay!), the CSA experiment (now indefinitely on hold), some big home repair, a lot of lazy/productive mornings writing, joining a gym, getting LG into therapy (again), settling into not-administering my program only to agree (I think) to do it again, 2018-2019 under different conditions.
I am perpetually looking for a system for getting the house cleaned (that is, involving the kids in it) and sticking with a meal plan. I also want to get to yoga class more reliably and take dance; I've been going to barre off and on, and it's finally occurred to me that what I like is the stuff that's familiar from ballet and/or yoga. But generally I don't like how my body feels during or after class; what I need is increased flexibility (not toning muscle) and I'm not getting it there. And I'm still working on losing the same 3-5 pounds and maybe I just have to give up, but I don't want to stop wearing my favorite work skirts that really don't fit right now... My other plans involve giving up Twitter, except where I need it for work, and reading blogs that don't bring too much joy. And reading more "for fun" during my rocking chair time.
More soon...Tiny beckons
