I've had this plan to write the Big Post, in which I outline my goals and plans for the year. Last year I had the "year of the P," for purpose, presence, peace, and patience, the qualities I wanted to achieve in my life. That worked out pretty well. But you know, I'm stumped as to what I should do for this year. Maybe that means I keep living my life as I'm living it. Maybe that means I'm overwhelmed. The only thing I can come up with is the very general mottos of "slow down" and "make the moment count." So I'm putting off that post indefinitely, offering instead an update about All Things Gwinne:
I never got my computer back from Amtrak, which I'm guessing means it was stolen. So I went out and bought a fancy new laptop which, admittedly, has pleased me on many levels. But the searching for files and trying to recreate months of work and the downloading and uploading and the general technological overload has not been good for me, not to mention the stress of worrying about identity theft and loss of work and someone else having pictures of my kid and the notebook (in the computer bag) where I've kept random scribbles for the past year. I haven't been sleeping, which is the usual tipoff that I'm feeling stressed. I also feel it creeping into my shoulders and the base of my skull (at least I've got yoga on Friday).
Classes begin next Monday, and I think I'm mostly ready, at least in terms of things that need to be copied and uploaded and so forth. (In addition to getting aquainted with the new machine, I am also learning the university's "course management system" for a new course I'm teaching. That makes me crabby.) I need to come up with a first day/first week lesson for the new course, which will involve some reading and notetaking. I also need to make some emails about the student organization I'm vaguely in charge of, which unwittingly scheduled its first event for the first week of class (not a good plan, people!).
On the ttc front: I had an appointment with Dr. Gorgeous on Monday for a sonohysterogram, which went just fine (though the drive home was rather unpleasant). I have prescriptions for drugs, new and old. They're transferring the remaining specimens of the other half of LG's DNA from Here to There in a cryotank next week (just need to sign some papers locally). And then it's just a matter of biding my time until March (I've given myself permission to do a cycle that starts Feb 22 or later).
In lieu of buying maternity clothes, I treated myself to a few new pieces for my work wardrobe, including a pink skirt, a pair of black pants, and a fancy shirt. It appears that I've gained a few pounds in the past month or so--gotta love progesterone--but if I go back on the diet (wheat/dairy-free) hardcore I should be back to my same old self before I start on the hormones again.
I think that's all for now. Need to come up with a plan for the remainder of the afternoon. Thanks for listening.
