Another Post About Baby Gear

1. Experience with mei tei carriers or the pikkolo soft-structured carrier?  I've been putting Tiny Boy in the Bjorn (although he is technically about 2 lbs and 2 inches too small) with a fair amount of success; I just tuck his hands up by his face as his arms don't quite reach the arm holes.  Still, not a major fan of this carrier, just happens to be the one I have around the house.

2. Still debating whether to begin cloth diapering once Tiny Boy is out of preemie disposables (A actually made a couple preemie sized diapers for him, but the cover was too big to reliably try out).  A's used all kinds o' diapers for different reasons.  BPF uses Flips.  Any readers have cloth diapering experience/preferences?  Really, my only reservation is the extra laundry.  And I think if I go cloth I only want to have to buy one size diaper to get us through...

Okay, must strap on the boy to fetch LG from the bus stop...

  1. I found a baby wearing club in my county. They have a library of carriers you can check out before committing to a purchase. I bet you could find one in your area?

  2. I know that others have recommended, but I will second the ergo with the infant insert. Super comfy, perfect for very small ones, and you can let down one arm and pump one side at a time while baby sleeps. Oh, and it continues to be super comfy with a 27 lb baby. Yeah, its pricey, but I figure it will last at least two years.

  3. A baby carrier library sounds awesome! How did you find out about yours?

I've been reading around and as I recall Ergo's aren't great for short women (might be misremembering, but I'm sure there's a reason I discounted it pretty early in my search?). Interesting about the infant insert...I've heard the opposite, that it's a carrier mostly designed for bigger babies/toddlers. I suppose I need to borrow one and see how it works...

  4. Silent reader here: the beco is my favorite carrier. It's like the Ergo but more comfortable. Has an inner lining so the baby is pretty secure. I bought mine off a friend.

And cloth diapers of choice for us are the Flips. Easy, expandable in size, reusable covers so less laundry. We clothed exclusively from 1 month to 18 months and they have held up well. Also have some used Bumgenius we would double up for overnights when that was necessary.

Congrats on the baby and tenure. As a non tenure track medical faculty, I can only imagine the work. Whew.
