1. Why you would dawdle for weeks about getting materials to a professor who has agreed to write you a letter of recommendation and then expect that when you informed her that oops, your deadline is Dec 5, not Dec 15, she'd actually be able to get it done, especially since you know she is on leave and it is now Dec 3.
2. Why you'd ask for a letter of recommendation two weeks before the end of the semester and then send a follow up email saying to forget about the previous request, you've decided not to apply after all but probably will next year.
These people perplex me. I have to say, it's pretty nice being on baby time, not semester time, right now. Trying very hard to remember this is the only time in my life I will be on maternity leave, and I've got a very long career left ahead of me.
When I looked at your post heading in my reader, I thought it said "Things I Do Not Understand about Undergarments." Just had to share.
ReplyDeleteHa! Although I am often perplexed by undergarments as well :)
ReplyDelete1. Because they are often immature and self-centered.
ReplyDelete2. See above.
Sorry you have to deal with this. You are right - this is your chance to be on maternity leave. You have a long and illustrious career ahead of you and don't have to get roped into giving up your time off b/c other people didn't plan.

Gah, undergraduates. Can't live with 'em, can't live without 'em. :) They are perplexing creatures. Newborns are slightly less so!
ReplyDeleteI hear you. But then other times they rock. Like today. I walked into my lab to tell one of my undergrads that she should feel free to move into the desk space vacated an hour earlier by the asshole grad student guy I kicked out of the lab. She was already moved into the space and hard at exam-studying... love it.
