A Tiny Update About a Tiny Boy

So we have not really started Operation Wean and Sleep in any systematic way, mostly because we just got the clock and we're going out of town and that seemed like not great timing.  But we've been moving SLOWLY in the right direction.  To wit:

  1. Tiny Boy does not come into my bed anymore before "morning," by which I mean the very reasonable hour of 6:00 or (ideally) after.  (The toddler clock is set for 6:30, which used to be his wake-up time, but for a variety of reasons he's needed DEALING WITH by 6:10 for the past few days.)
  2. He seems to have dropped nursing after daycare.  It used to be he wanted to nurse pretty much constantly from the moment we got home until he went to bed (okay, slight exaggeration, but it wasn't like a 10 minute feeding or anything either).  Hasn't done it since last week.  And maybe twice he went to sleep without nursing.  Now if there were ONE feeding I'd want to keep it would be before bed.  But if this is how he wants to start weaning, well, okay.
  3. He nurses less at night.  Not less frequently, but there are times I can cut him off after only ~6-7 minutes instead of 10.
  4. And last night, he woke only at 1:00 and 5:00.  I actually DREAMED, people.  A totally fucked up dream, but a dream nonetheless.
Now one of the problems that is standing in the way of the better sleeping at night is wet diapers.  He wears disposables at night, even though I usually cloth diaper, because he's such a heavy wetter at night.  But lately that's not working.  And it seemed to me the problem wasn't so much he was WET (it was happening as early as midnight) but that the diaper was bunched up in front because of some nocturnal playtime with his boy parts.  So I thought I'd outsmart him.  I put on the usual disposable and THEN a cloth diaper cover on top.  It worked once, failed once, so we'll see.

Anyway, that's what's going on around here.  And now I need to go harass LG about the mess that is her bedroom.

  1. Woo-Hoo! This sounds a lot like the beginning of the end, in all the best ways. When I was Ready To Be Done, I made a rule that if we went a week without a particular session, it was Gone. When he asked about one of those, I said, "you don't do that anymore," and I was shocked that he totally accepted that answer. YMMV, of course; this is just to say that sometimes these critters are surprising.

  2. I am still amazed that you function so well off so little sleep. It seems like TB is weaning himself.
