What was up with my children last night?!

Tiny Boy didn't go to sleep until 10:30!!!!  (Neither did LG, which probably had to do with his yelling and her sleeping on a sleeping bag on my floor so be near the AC.)  And then he was annoyingly awake for most of the 3:00-4:00 hour wanting to nurse and up for the day at 6:45.  For the record, we started bedtime rituals around 7:00, he was in the crib by 8:00, got his leg stuck in the crib around 8:45 and things devolved from there.

So much for Operation Wean and Sleep.

But I think I'm going to do what my therapist suggested because there is very little to lose.  I think I'm going to give him a bottle through the night instead of the boob.  And then gradually make the milk bottle a water bottle.  Or a sippy cup, except there's a greater likelihood the whole bed will be a puddle.  Because while ideally weaning would result in sleeping (or vice versa), if the boobing isn't actually helping sleep, well, what's the point?

  1. In my personal experience, having to get up to give the Bean a bottle at 3am is about one zillion times less annoying than nursing. I am more likely to go right back to sleep, and after some initial ructions on the topic, so is he. Also: no one is sucking out my very soul. That's a plus.

Why do our children not love sleep? It is the most wonderful stuff!

  2. (And yes, the Bean is now therefore quite attached to bottles, well past age two. And you know what? I don't give a flying fuck. His doctor would rather he weren't, but she doesn't live here.)

  3. We've had a lot of luck with the klean kanteen sippy in terms of not leaking. Sippy technology has come a long way in the past few years!

  4. Bionic, LG took a bottle until 3. I didn't care one iota either. Choose your battles, eh?

  5. Agree with nicoleandmaggie. Tommee tippee have a truly non spil sippy cup. I highly recommend it. Of course, my youngest prefers straw cups, so he does ot use it to drink out of it, but to walk around shaking it with all his might (plenty of that). And bang it against the couch and toys and table and stairs. Not a drop falls! There. :-)

Now, TB, the counter is running, enjoy the little number of nights you have got left to prance around, because turning two is near, and THEN you will have no other chance but to succumb to wonderful, long, all night long sleep sessions, night after night after night. Be warned. :-)

  6. Will have to look at those sippys, thanks; all the ones we have that are supposedly spill proof really aren't...
