I got an estimate today on having air conditioning put in my house. It was, in my mind, OBSCENE, even though I just spent twice that much, without blinking, on a new roof.
We needed the new roof, see. And the guy who did it charged me $3000 less than the other guy, so it seemed like a bargain.
We've lived in this house eight years without air conditioning. And this isn't even a bad summer. So it seems completely extravagant to have air conditioning put in now. And there are probably other things, pricey things, that would be better for the house. Like new windows. And some landscaping (of the tree ripping out sort).
But sometimes, at like 3:00 am, when I'm hot flashing, which either has to do with perimenopause or the whole prolactin-induced low estrogen insanity, it would be REALLY nice.*
* As with LG, it seems that when my weight hits a critical low due to breastfeeding I stop getting a period, despite the fact that I'm one of those individuals who got a period by 2-3 months postpartum both times around (even nursing every 2 hrs round the clock). Apparently somewhere around 97 is the magic number. Weird thing is, my weight is back up, but the period is still AWOL. Huh.

Do you have PCOS? Breastfeeding sends me spiralling downwards too but weight up or down I don't get a period. Already I've been breastfeeding a week and my weight is dropping rapidly. I've lost about six pounds in four days.
ReplyDeleteNope.
ReplyDeleteI do think I go into some crazy hyper-metabolic state while breastfeeding, though. It takes me a TON of calories to maintain weight.
Find out if price for adding a/c will drop for an installation in NOV DEC JAN rather than mid July when everyone is dying from heat.... Sometimes that can radically alter the budget impact.
ReplyDeleteThat is a fantastic suggestion.
ReplyDeleteGO YOU! There are some days when OH MY GOD I WOULD KILL FOR AC. I hope it proves feasible, and after all, it's only gonna get hotter, right?
