A question for my readers: what is your take on home pregnancy tests? I mean, do you use them or wait for beta? If you do use them, when?
I've done everything from compulsive daily testing beginning around 7 dpo to waiting for beta and skipping the peeing on sticks entirely. Both times I've been pregnant, I tested positive at home on 12 dpo. Haven't decided yet what I'm doing this cycle...still have a week to think about it.
I've always tested at home and always got BFNs when pregnant (even months into pregnancy) except with this pregnancy when I got a BFP on 12dpo. I think it's fun, although the BFNs always made my heart sink. I buy them at the dollar store, so at least they are cheap!
ReplyDeleteI obsessively tested at home for my past five cycles. The worst was the last one which I started at 7dpo so I could watch the trigger shot leave my system. With that cycle I got a BFP at 12dpo (which I thought could have been an evap line) mixed results on 13dpo (one test maybe +, one -) and then a definite + home test on 14dpo (beta hCG was 28 that day). It was quite a roller coaster that continued on with my subsequent low betas.
ReplyDeleteMy plan for the next cycle (we'll see if I can keep to it) is to maybe POAS at 13dpo but not earlier. I think I was too obsessed and hated seeing those BFNs. It got to be a pain in the butt too. I bought the majority of my tests at the dollar store as well. I hope this helps somehow!
@Michele: does your doctor have any theory on why you'd test negative for your other pregnancies and test positive on this one?
ReplyDelete@MeAndBaby: The thing about this clinic is beta is scheduled for 12 dpo, which I really like, so if I'm going to test, it will be early no matter what I do. Trying to decide if I'll go for beta and then come home and POAS just so I'm prepared when the nurse calls me or if I'll start testing earlier (10 dpo?). I hate those negatives, too. But I'm not sure I can just wait for the nurse's call...
Originally I went with the no HPT, just wait for the Beta, but hearing the "not pregnant" on the phone was pretty bad.
ReplyDeleteSo I prefer doing a HPT as late as possible (i.e if/when I'm late), and only if I get a positive ther, go to the clinic and have a Beta.
But I see you are asked to come in for Beta on CD12 (you can't go in later?. Personally I wouldn't POAS at home, because [in the worst case scenario..]having to hear twice the N word..
Hmmmm....I like the beta at 12 dpo, as it cuts 2 days of the horrible 2ww. I can stop taking progesterone and get on with my plans for the next cycle. As awful as it is hearing it over the phone, I need the defnitive "yes" or "no." I had a significant bleed at 14 dpo with my first pregnancy and would have assumed it was a period without the positive HPT, followed by beta
ReplyDeleteI pee. Personally, I think Michele was getting negs when she was pg because they were cheapies. I used both cheapies and First Response this last cycle, and the cheapies definitely took longer to show a second line. First day I got a pos on the First Response, total neg on the cheapie.
ReplyDeleteThis last cycle I waited until 10dp2dt because it was a Saturday. I didn't want to do it on a weekday and have to possible deal with going to work after getting a neg.
GOOD LUCK!
