Two Weeks Down, Fourteen to Go

Not that I'm counting or anything :)

It's somewhat strange that we're two weeks into the semester and I've met my classes each only two times (the equivalent of one week), due to Labor Day. In that sense, I feel like things are barely getting off the ground--today is (finally!) LG's first full day of school!--even as the IVF insanity is slated to begin next week. Tuesday I have a last minute consult with Dr. Gorgeous, in which we will hash out this whole microdose lupron issue, and Thursday I go in for baseline monitoring and begin Ganirelix (unless, I suppose, that gets changed on Tuesday).

I'm not yet feeling overwhelmed--acupuncture has a long lasting effect, it seems--although I've been awake since 4:30. The Headache is also back with a vengeance (I've taken Amerge three times in the past week, which is, well, not good.) I'm not sure what that's about, unless I'm going back to that old pattern of getting a headache every time I'm on campus (my actual building/office would seem to be the problem).

And now a mishmash of things I haven't reported on, as I have been too busy to actually blog.

My mid-sized, non-major course is going splendidly. I really like them, at least at the moment. My intro level course in my area of specialization? Not so much. It's one of those situations, to use a cliche, when one or two rotten apples can spoil the whole bunch. That's really too bad, as the first time I taught this course it was my absolute favorite of the year.

Putting LG on the bus this morning was a little freaky. Fortunately there are three other kids at her bus stop, and one is a third grader who seems to know everything about the bus route. His mom said he'd be sure LG got on the right bus after school. It's the one with the CAT, LG! She has a different "transportation plan" for M/W and T/R/F, so I put a note in her backpack that said BUS today. The teacher keeps track of all this stuff, too, but I'm vaguely worried she'll end up taking the bus home on a day she's not supposed to. I think that's what the 4:30 wake up was all about.

So far LG likes kindergarten, though the recurring theme seems to be she's worried she won't make friends. I find that a little weird, as she's usually in the cool clique (at least in preschool) and is not shy around other children. We had a chat about how to make friends, and I reminded her that all the kids in the class are new kids, that no one has a lot of friends yet. In the end, she told me she has two friends, and that's enough.

Now I must do actual writing. With LG's *4 day weekend* and short day on Tuesday, I've done nothing but childcare and teaching for the past week. A meeting with a grad student this afternoon. Tomorrow's schedule looks like this: yoga (yay!), meeting, acupuncuture (yay!), do something related to my work, lecture. Methinks the top of my head could use that needle again.

  1. I remember kindergarten... I loved my teacher and made such good buddies... I know LG will have a blast.
