Sleeping Babies

My most sacred rule as a parent is that sleep should be prioritized.  When she was little, much to A's astonishment, LG had a 6:30 bedtime.  At 7, LG rarely stays up past her bedtime--I didn't even take her to the fireworks on July 4 this year and we attend night events at her school very selectively--because the lack of sleep just ruins both our moods for days.

When I got out of class today, it occurred to me that Peanut hadn't moved in a good long while; usually he wiggles during class.  I finally figured out the last time I remembered him moving was at lunch, roughly 5 hrs before.  I ate M&Ms and guzzled water.  I jostled my belly.  I contemplated how long I would let this go on before calling my OB, as I wasn't instructed to do kick counts until 28 weeks.  Nothing.  I got home with LG, drank lemonade, lay down.  Nothing.  I kicked myself mentally for returning the doppler.  I fed LG.  I fed myself.

Guess who woke up and is now having a dance party in my uterus?  Forget sleeping like a baby; I'd love to sleep like a fetus and wake that refreshed.

  1. Schew. Those are tense moments waiting for that movement.

Mads goes to sleep around 6:30-7pm, and she's tired by this time. I had envisioned putting her to bed at 8pm but she can't do it without massively sad crying fits. Did LG nap much? Maddy sleeps about 13 hours at night but then doesn't nap much at all during the day.

I hope your little guy sleeps as well as LG!

  2. InB, at that age, yes, LG was probably taking 3 naps per day (one as late as 4 or 5 in the evening). The 6:30 bedtime really came after she gave up napping but still required about 12 hrs sleep per night (age 3-5). I hope this boy sleeps better than LG, actually! We had a really rough first year!
