A Lesson in Grace

(or, "The Vacation That Wasn't")

Well, I could tell you about the 7 hrs we spent in the airport on Thursday, only to rebook our cancelled flight for Friday morning and then arrive in NYC just as the Mayor decided to shut down the entire city.  I could tell you that we didn't see the Statue of Liberty or go to the Met or the Guggenheim or MoMA or do most of the things on our list.

Instead, I'll say that we stayed three nights in a lovely hotel, spent more time with relatives than we'd planned, ate at a fabulous restaurant my uncle found on Sunday night, and enjoyed wandering around New York in the rain.  We still went to Central Park and Times Square and made it to the Museum of Natural History on Monday.  Because of the storm, LG practiced her gymnastics routine in an empty ballroom at the hotel, and I soaked myself in the bathtub.  And, amazingly, we managed to leave New York when we'd planned and arrived an hour earlier than we were supposed to.

Hurricane Irene hit New York Sunday morning, and by some accounts I began my third trimester.  A memorable weekend, to say the least.

  1. Wow ... incredible! I'm glad that you arrived and left safely, but sorry that it was such a mess when you came! You are entitled to a do-over at some point soon ... when #2 is old enough.
