The boy has blue eyes.
And I don't think they're going to change, as they are blue, not that dark blue/slate gray color he had (and LG had) at birth.
They're beautiful, and he gets compliments on them all the time. And this is just one of the many ways he fails to resemble both LG and me. It's one of the things that marks him as my DE child (though, to be fair, I do think it would be genetically possible--though not likely--for me to produce a light-eyed child on my own, as I have two grandparents with light eyes, and my sister has hazel eyes).
Both donors I chose had brown hair and brown eyes. Although I didn't care too much about their looks, I did want to up the chances that the kiddo would have a vague resemblance to me. And, indeed, when I showed their baby photos to my best friend, the first thing she said was that looks like LG.
Tiny Boy also has blond hair, but I suspect that will darken.
Yeah, he doesn't look like either one of the donors, not more than a tiny smidge (like, I can tell which nose he got. I think).
And I'm waiting for the questions to start, like: does his father have blue eyes?
In the whole scheme of things, I don't care. I have a baby for crying out loud. But it's not like looking in the mirror when I look at LG. He's my son. But I'd be lying if I said it's exactly the same.
Actually, they may still turn green or even hazel. Both my hub and I have green eyes (with varying amounts of brown). All three of our kids initially had light blue eyes; the two older ones have green now -- the older green brownish, the middle beautiful clear green. We are expecting the baby will eventually have some sort of green.
ReplyDeleteSo not all is lost! :-)
I love me some blue-eyed babies. Makes them looks so... babyish.
I've been AWOL (job search season). But I've dipped in now and then and OMG those pictures! Of that baby! OMG. He is positively gorgeous. Really. I mean it. I swelled with excitement seeing the one last week. And then this one. Yummy baby.
ReplyDeleteOf my three boys, two look exactly like me (no hint of their dad). The middle one looks IDENTICAL to dad and nothing like me. It is fascinating to look at myself in a "boy" mirror, I'll admit. But it's also fascinating watching this entirely different creature (my middle) grow up. There's an odd bit of relief that he's independent from me. I can't really explain it. The funny thing is that people still occasionally say he looks like me (when the others aren't around). I think it's just something people say.
As for Dr G. I think you should go for it. She's never going to be your dr again, and if you need therapy, well, go to therapy. :) One beauty of this scenario is that she already knows some of your past: your anxieties and frustrations thru the ART process. And she is kind, smart, gentle.
Long overdue congratulations on tenure! I'm so thrilled for you. I know it was a frustrating situation, none of which was your fault. I'm grateful it worked out.
Rebecca! I've been wondering what happened to you!
ReplyDeleteYes, job search season SUCKS. I hope you're hiring smart, likeable people who will make fabulous colleagues. Can't get enough of those as far as I'm concerned.
Thank you on all fronts! I think he's pretty yummy, too, esp. his baby toes!
Gasp! That little man just took my breath away.
