Random Bullets of the End of Summer

  • I just emailed Nasty Editor the final version of an essay, which has gone through multiple rounds of revision, per their request. The original version was written the month before LG was born, and she's 4.5 this month! This has been a long, annoying process, leaving me feeling like I never want to submit an essay to an academic journal again. Unfortunately, it is essays in academic journals that leads to respect and raises around here, particularly as I have a much easier time getting "scholarly" work accepted than I do "creative" work, largely due to market forces.
  • I have a list of phone calls I'd rather not make.
  • LG and I are leaving for Chicago in the morning, to visit my sister in the hospital. No one knows what's wrong with her, but she's literally delusional. Possibilities being discussed: she stopped taking her anti-depressant, she OD'd on something, a weird drug interaction, or a stroke.
  • Three weeks left to finish this encyclopedia entry and get a grant proposal together. Syllabi need to be written. Course packets need to be assembled.
  • I have a cold that skipped my head and settled in my chest. I'd like to go back to bed. I should go to campus and get copies of syllabi to revise, which can be done from Chicago, so I feel like I'm doing *something*
