Resveratrol, anyone?

So Acu #2 was very diplomatic in her response to my email. And I think she gets it. And she did say something to the effect of wanting to do the things that are more calming rather than agitating. All good.

She suggested I start taking Resveratrol, which I know nothing about. And the quick Google search I did isn't coming up with much of anything in terms of women taking it for DOR (which is one thing she thinks it would help). Obviously nothing is going in my body until I talk it over with Dr. Gorgeous, but I thought I'd run it by you all...

  1. Okay, so it's sooooo weird that you posted this...I've never heard of resveratrol (at first I thought it said reversatrol and I found that idea rather appealing! :-) but I thought I'd google it, too, and see what I could find (as usual, desperate for a magic bullet) and I found this article:

    http://www.steadyhealth.com/articles/Resveratrol_Health_Benefits__an_Anti_aging_Stimulant_with_Heart_Benefits_a1367.html

Apparently, it is a natural plant extract found in berry fruits and particularly red skinned grapes...I JUST went for a walk with the dog and was craving red grapes and bought a big bunch and was sitting here munching on them at the time! (if you go to the link you'll find a picture of red grapes)...Anyhow, that's my weird coincidence of the day! And the article says that red grapes and red wine are great sources of resveratrol, which sounds like a very healthy anti-aging, anti-cancer biochemical.

Also, if you go to the High FSH Support board (http://www.network54.com/Forum/209394/search) and search for resveratrol, there are a bunch of posts about it - I can't believe I've never heard of it before! Someone on there suggested googling resveratrol and fertility, so I did that and found a bunch of different perspectives on it. I think it's a good idea to check with your RE before actually taking the pill form, and I'll ask mine about it, too, and then we can compare notes! Until then, grapes and blueberries are a safe bet! :)

    Love,
    Maddy

P.S. I wrote a comment on my blog to respond to your question about what my doc is saying about IVF...Thanks for being so supportive and asking questions - I'm so glad to know you!

  2. don't know about reservatol - probably can't hurt, right? It's from red pigment in grapes and berries I think...

I found the cocktail the colorado folks recommended to me very helpful. Details here: http://lifeandloveinthepetridish.blogspot.com/2010/04/colorado-cocktail-and-let-healthiness.html

Our embryo quality this last cycle was SO much better than it's ever been. Five confirmed normal blasts out of seven (and one of those was a no result so might also be normal). We were floored. If we do another fresh cycle in the future, I would definitely add these supplements again.

  3. Thanks. Mo, I know nothing about MyoInositol, so I'll check that out. I've been doing CoEnzyme Q10 (though stopped recently) and don't react well to Melatonin, even at low doses...

But... I just checked Resveratrol on WebMD and won't be using it, as it isn't recommended for those on anticoagulants. Or maybe it makes sense to take it for the follicular phase, when I'm not doing the Lovenox/aspirin cocktail. Oy, it's all too much, you know?
