Random Bullets at 6w4d

  • I am very pleased to report that I hit exhaustion yesterday.  Oh, I've been tired.  I've been bleary in that way that a woman who hasn't slept well since January experiences.  But yesterday I was hit with that particular brand of exhaustion I have only ever experienced in pregnancy.  The one where it seems like too much work to pick up my backpack and walk to the parking garage to go home.  The one where I have no trouble falling asleep at 9:00 pm and sleeping like a dead thing (an overheated, hormone-addled dead thing) and could go back to sleep immediately after waking at 7:00.  (Oh, Dr. Gorgeous would be so proud.)  In my memory of things, that hit earlier with LG.  But my betas are basically running 4 days behind what they were with LG.
  • I am meeting today with someone about potentially filing a grievance (against whom I don't know) in regard to my tenure case.  At my chair's unofficial urging.  I don't think it will matter and, as my chair said, the timing of all this is really such that we have to go through the rigamarole the upper administration asked, but it's something I need to do.
  • I have a dentist appointment today.  For the past 5 (?) visits to the dentist, I've needed to say I might be pregnant, or yes, I'm trying to get pregnant but no there's no way I am right now, or.  But today I am.  Really truly honest to goodness 6.5 weeks pregnant.
  • I have not whined about it in a while but can I just say fuck PIO?  I have now completely ruined several pairs of underwear from enormous blood stains (now I'm just using a bandaid every day), I got all kinds of oil and gunk yesterday on one of my favorite work shirts, and the lumps in my ass are really unpleasant.  Don't get me wrong; I'm thrilled that I still need the shit and I'm very happy that it's not affecting my mobility anymore, but this is getting old...
  • Trader Joe's Ginger and Almond Granola is rocking my world.  I've eaten a box already this week.  (Much better than the ginger snap extravanganza of first trimester with LG.)
  • My senior seminar met at a bar yesterday.  Let's just say there are less than 10 students, they are all over 21, and our classroom was less than conducive to workshop.  It was a very small step from coffee shop to bar.  They did decide that getting a pitcher of beer would be a BAD idea.  Thanks, guys.  It was okay, but I doubt we'll be repeating that experience.  (The argument they've been mobilizing:  But Hemingway drank and we're reading Hemingway so really we should have class in a bar.  Yeah)
  • I've got to shower and do something with my morning.  Someone tell me to stop googling embryonic heart rates and likelihood of miscarriage.
  • I did it.  I just made an appointment at the ob/gyn's office for 8w2d, which is when Dr. G suggested.  Unfortunately I won't be able to meet the doctor until 12 weeks, which is not going to fly with Dr. G, but I've taken the scary first step of meeting with the NP.  Whom I've met before and like very much.  So either Dr. G is going to need to keep giving me weekly ultrasounds until 12 weeks, or she'll need to call the OB (whom she recommended) to get me in sooner.  Right now I'm barely surviving the 5-7 days between ultrasounds, much less a MONTH.

  1. I'll say it: Step away from the keyboard. No googling. Seriously. It's not going to help if anything IS wrong (which it's not!) and it's just going to upset you, which isn't good for you OR Peanut.

That said, you sound good. Exhausted, sick of PIO, etc. but GOOD.

Thinking good, sticky, healthy thoughts (and appalled you don't get to meet the doc til 12 weeks? What's up with that?)

    So happy for you!!!

  2. I'm not sure I'm good. But I think I'm too exhausted to keep up the insane adrenaline rush of anxiety I've had going for the past three weeks. And I keep telling myself that no amount of worry is going to help this pregnancy (although a little claritin, pepcid, lovenox, and flax seed can't hurt)...

  3. ahh PIO.. I am not complaining. I will gladly inject myself because I am nourishing the little one. No more googling for you.. it's all anecdotal stuff-- nothing is evidence-based on the internet.
