Before I proceed with the business of this post, I will say it again: this has been a pretty easy pregnancy from a physical standpoint. I'm sleeping (more or less). I'm walking without pain. I am not majorly swollen. And even the digestive issues are mostly under control.
You know there's a but coming, right?
The exhaustion is kicking my ass. I took LG to the bus stop this morning, ate breakfast, sat down at the computer and realized sitting took too much energy (I was actually feeling pretty woozy) so I took the computer into bed with me, wrote a paragraph and decided I couldn't actually think clearly enough to do any more. Although I am incapable of napping, I did curl up with my eyes closed for an hour. Slugged through a couple pages worth of revisions and here we are. And I really need to go back to bed.
I don't quite remember feeling this way with LG. Majorly insomniated, yes. Finding it difficult to lug my body around because my legs hurt so fucking much, yes. Glad to sit on my butt and not go anywhere, yes. But this needing to be in bed all the time? That's new.
And it's not like we had a really stressful or overly busy weekend. We ran usual errands (grocery store, farmer's market), I cleaned out the linen closet, I took LG to various activities which generally allowed me to sit/read/flip through magazines.
Hallelujah I do not need to be on campus regularly (though I do need to make it to the library some time today). But I do need to get something done in the next 11ish weeks and I probably need to be awake to do it.
Sigh.
I wonder if just being a mom to LG (even if fun and non-stressful) is contributing to the exhaustion. When I get emotionally exhausted (like answering 3,498,007 "delightful" child questions in an hour), my body starts to slow down and I just feel DONE. Plus, you know, you've been through a lot these last few years. Maybe your body is just indulging in the pregnancy!
ReplyDeleteQuite possible, Rebecca. Yesterday it was "Mom, what's water?" Followed by "what's hydrogen?" "what's an element?" etc. We also had the conversation about how she needs to make noise to feel okay and I need quiet to feel okay and sometimes that causes problems....yeah...
ReplyDeleteAnd it did occur to me that the last 3 years might have had a cumulative effect I'm noticing now that I don't *have* to run around all the time.
LOL. We used to call our oldest the "Why Guy" (he hated it!). Maybe LG is the "What Girl". It's got a sort of 60s ring to it! And maybe the cumulative effect is like sleep deprivation: they say you can't "catch up" on sleep...you have to just push thru it.
ReplyDeleteI'd love to hang with you one day. Maybe we'll be in the same place at the same time.
Yes, that would be great fun! I don't imagine we haunt the same conferences, though.... maybe we should work on that.
