In all seriousness...
How large a milk stash do I really need before this boy starts daycare?
I really don't remember having much of one with LG (I seem to remember sending her with 4 4-oz bottles?)
Because while I will obviously need to pump at least one day ahead of him...I really can't get in a single pumping session right now (like, not even for my morning yoga class...I'll need to nurse him before I leave and hope that's enough). Too much nursing at night, not enough supply in the evening, and there's no other time to do it unless LG "babysits" which really doesn't work for an extended period of time.
And if the not-so-subtle pulling my pajama top down is any indication, he needs those milkers. Again.

I was laughing out loud over your title. God, I had a HUGE stash ... I thought N. was going to daycare, and then she didn't. I had pumped religiously for months, sure that at some point I would get a job. Funny how things work, isn't it?
ReplyDeleteI don't know if it would work but one of the suggestion in a book I am reading is to feed on one side and pump on the other at the same time. That may cause some issues with supply for a bit though, but at least you wouldn't have to find time to feed and pump.
ReplyDeleteThanks, Jen. I did that with my first. For some reason Tiny Boy and I can't manage it...
ReplyDeleteI had a hard time with the nurse on one side pump on the other too. Sometimes it would work other times it wouldn't. What I did was pump in between feedings. I know that's probably not something that will work for you right now because he's nursing so much. And it is also very time consuming. When Annelise was nursing every 2 hours, I was either feeding her or pumping every hour.
ReplyDeleteI try to always have 2 days supply on hand. Sometimes I've had much more, other times (like now) I have much less. The other night I called into work and I don't know what I would have done if I had gone because I didn't have any milk ready.
I can never pump as much as she can get nursing, so I always felt like I was behind. Right now I have to pump about 3 times to get one bottle. It's very frustrating.
Good Luck, hopefully you'll find something that will work.
I had a little on hand before I went back to work, but most of what I gave him was what I'd pumped the day before while at work. He didn't do too well with the bottles, so I ended up building up a supply after awhile. I hope you can find something that works for you and TB!
