After many a fake walk, I have determined that I can pause for about a sentence, make another circle around my living room, write another sentenced, and so on. It is not a particularly effective method--and I certainly can't write a book this way--but it does get some emails written. I have even, on two separate occasions, managed to run upstairs to pee before the boy figures out we've stopped.
On the one hand, this seems pathetic. On the other, hell, it means my baby is sleeping. And often for more than 40 minutes at a stretch. It might be the recovery, but the kid is taking 2-3 hrs of naps per day right now. Amen, eh?
Nights, they are not so pretty, my friends. While he generally goes down in the crib after a few minutes of fussing (fussing--not 30 minutes of screaming bloody murder!), his first wake up is after about 3 hours. At which point he is simply inconsolable, requires a long nursing stretch and may or may not be willing to go back to sleep without keeping the boob in his mouth. Last night, after he nursed for about 40 minutes (and let's be clear, during the day he can get milk from a breast in 5-10) I put him in the crib and he screamed for 45 before falling back to sleep. This was about midnight. When he did the same thing at around 3:00, I gave him the last of his baby vicodin, because I was sure he had to be in pain he was writhing around so much.
All this is new. And I suspect it has something to do with the 2-3 am extensive diaper changes and late night trips to the ER. Night is for sleeping? Huh?
I think he's post-surgical enough that we can probably recommence the sleep training, because the return of the all night suckathon is doing me in. He starts daycare on Wednesday--Wednesday, at exactly 10 months!--and I'd like to, you know, use that time to write a book. Not take long strolls in my living room.

This kills. Little fella is out of whack for sure. I have high hopes for an easy transition to an all night sleepathon. Especially before Wednesday!
