- I am not the sort of person who spends money willy-nilly. Like, I managed to live on $10K/year no problem during grad school. (Although I didn't have a house or a car or kids or any real bills)
- I don't go on real vacations. Or spend money on technology. Or clothes. Or entertainment. Or really much of anything except having babies. (And books, but that's sort of my job)
- So when told I might need to spend $15K to gut my bathroom (a leak and one thing leads to another and) it sort of makes me want to throw up.
- And then I think, well, why have savings if not for these sorts of things?
- Like remodeling my bathroom, which I hate in its actual form though would have loved it in its original 1941 form, might not be a bad thing. (Plumbing problem, cracked tile, more cracked tile, cracked sink, you get the drift.)
- Except we have only one bathroom which would make it, umm, not exactly possibly to inhabit our house while it was being gutted.
- Hmmm....now I'm going to take more sleepy medicine and not think about all this.

Musings About Home Repair

Ouch. I like to plan and save. The unexpected home repair is unfair on many levels. The solitary bathroom situation makes it even harder. This is when having local relatives come in handy. Living in a hotel was our only option when we went through the process. Good luck. Sleep lots on it.
ReplyDeleteYeah, it's less the money than the demolition to the house. Trying to look at a middle-of-the-road solution.
