School Supplies!

I distracted myself from thoughts of IVF Round 2 by going shopping (I am not ordinarily a shopper!) and purchasing school supplies for me and LG. LG got the usuals (crayons, markers, #2 pencils, spiral notebooks, tissues, antibacterial hand wipes), and I indulged myself with a new dress. I figure if I'm not going to be wearing maternity clothes until late fall, at the very earliest, I might as well get something smart to wear for school. Because I keep putting off buying clothes (I never replaced my black suit after LG was born!), operating under the assumption that they won't fit very soon and, you know, other than a few uncomfortable days during the IVF Debacle, I remain at the same exact weight.

So the dress: it's a subdued plaid in gray, black, and purple; sleeveless, which means I can top it easily with a sweater, or a long sleeved shirt underneath, when it gets warm. It makes me look, well, older, which is what I feel these days. I'm starting to feel a generational difference with my students...indeed, if I'd gotten knocked up straight out of high school, I'd have a college-aged kid.

I also bought my annual set of colored pens, with which to record events in my schedule (pink for all the repro stuff, green for LG's activities, blue for official work meetings) and purple to comment on student work (because I learned my first semester teaching that it is BAD to comment in red pen, though I do have one and occasionally use it). And a package of post-it page markers, so I don't lose track of passages I want to talk about in class.

Can I just say I love buying school supplies? Back to school might be my absolute favorite time of year. And, really, I am so over the Summer of Death and Despair that I can't wait to be back to work. Much to do in the next two weeks before that happens.

  1. I loved the multiple pen colors! I think that I will do that in 2010 as a way to keep better organized!
