Small Good Things

First, something that is neither small nor good, but a plea for human compassion during a really shitty week. Please stop by Sprogblogger's and give a virtual hug; she received the worst news imaginable yesterday.

*
  1. You know it's really not a great week when the highlight of your morning is that the phlebotomist didn't hurt you. Seriously, I had the best phlebotomist in the world who was able to use the left arm without any pain or bruising. She said I need to tell others that it rolls to the right.
  2. I watched the first couple episodes of Californication last night. If I can't have vodka (and really, last night, I almost said fuck it and started drinking because you know this cycle won't work anyway), I'll take some TV to numb the pain, please. (I realize this blog makes it sound like I drink a lot. That's actually very far from the truth.)
  3. I'm done with Paul Auster. Now I'm working on Jhumpa Lahiri's Unaccustomed Earth. She makes me want to be a short story writer. There really isn't anything better than a well-crafted short story. I miss teaching them.
  4. My cat. We've had her now for three years, and she's just so snuggly. Ours is a wonderfully uncomplicated relationship.
  5. The rain. This sort of messes up my plans for the day, which involved an outdoor activity, but it really complements my mood. Maybe I'll take LG to the movies instead.
