Stress and IVF

Yesterday I did a PubMed search on stress and IVF, and I came across a disconcerting study (which I will not look up again to give you actual details). The basic gist is that while stress itself does not correlate with IVF failure, those who use expressive outlets to deal with stress (not defined, but I took to mean things like talking, writing, painting) were more likely to experience IVF failure. Yeah, not so good for me. (Oh, maybe I should look it up again, just to make sure I didn't get it backwards.)

Not coincidentally, I had lunch with Best Professor Friend yesterday, and ended up in a crying fit (fuck it, I will blame the Pill) and completely stressed out. Therefore, I am resolved to not talk any more about IVF except with my doctor and her staff. And possibly (probably?) on this blog. I feel best when I am not thinking but doing. I see a lot of porch meditation in my future.

  1. I find that hard to believe! I know my RE talked to us about journaling and talking through our IUIs, etc, because relieving the stress by journaling/talking was better than having it built up. I cant imagine that, had we been doing IVF, she would have advised differently. Interesting...
