One of those days

I'm not ready to face the day. I'm still feeling fat and uncomfortable, and I'm out-of-sorts, which I expect has to do with the impending arrival of my period (that I wish would just freaking show up already so I can get on with the next stage of my life). And it's snowing. Still. And while I love looking at the snow, the responsibility of shoveling and de-icing is getting old. I didn't sleep well last night--the sort of bad sleep when you wake so frequently and easily you wonder if you've actually fallen asleep at all--and that isn't helping me to focus. And I need to focus. I need to figure out what it is I need to do today, beyond show up for my classes (what exactly am I going to talk about?).

But the fact of the matter is I would really like a snow day of my own, a day to putter around the house in the PJs that fit a lot better than the black pants I squeezed myself into this morning, and drink the last of the coffee and maybe write but probably just watch TV. It's that kind of day. I'm tired, folks. Monumentally tired.

Spring break, to which I was so looking forward, has already filled up with reading (student papers for two classes, a dissertation chapter, submissions for multiple contests, and gobwads [I had an ex who liked that word] of material to read for committee work).

And I've already lost the enthusiasm and optimism I had for this upcoming cycle.

Can I just forget today and go back to bed?

  1. I couldn't agree more. Today is SO MUCH a day to just curl up in bed and forget about functioning like an adult.

  2. Absolutely. What's the name of that tea you're drinking?
