Small Good Things (Conference Edition)

  1. I saw Dr. Boy. We were on good, safe, flirty terms. We had drinks and a lot of intellectual banter. If you were hoping for something more interesting...sorry. Blame it on the Prometrium, his "lady friend," and my lack of sexy boots.
  2. What a nice hotel. My room--I kid you not--had a couch and a chess table. Not that I used those amenities. Conference rates are nice things.
  3. Room service. We get a per diem when we travel. I figure if I go overboard on room service and then eat granola bars for other meals, it all works out in the end. It was pretty darn nice to have someone bring me coffee and yogurt at 6:45 this morning before I got back in my car.
  4. I completely sabotaged my diet. I drank wine. I had actual caffeine. I ate pizza. I skipped my prenatals (can't swallow them without OJ). And you know, I'm glad. Now I will go back to being a dietary saint.
  5. My paper went fine. It was a strange panel, with four other people, all of whom were grad students. But it's done. It's a line on my CV. I have ideas about new directions, and I'm not going to complain.

All in all, I have to say that was one of my best conference experiences. It wasn't a good conference in terms of intellectual stimulation (other than a kick-ass keynote) but I managed to get through it without hiding out in my room dealing with The Headache, which is what usually happens. I might write more about that later. For now, I'm glad I went. I'm glad it's done. Next up: a report on the status of my ovaries.
