Small Good Things (Day 35)

  1. I did not require migraine medication on a Wednesday. Although, admittedly, the school-day headaches have diminished since I (a) started seeing a chiropractor on a semi-regular basis and (b) survived the third year review, when I do get headaches they fall, more often than not, on teaching days (this past Monday, for instance), and last night was just fine.
  2. Thus, a no-work Wednesday night done for rest, not because I'm in too much pain to think. I watched TV and finished up Invisible (the conclusion of which ultimately disappointed me, and I'm certainly allowed to say that about my read-for-fun books). I do wonder if I don't have it in me to write about Auster at some point, though, as his project is tangentially related to one of my major scholarly interests.
  3. It's Pee-on-a-Stick Day here at Chez Gwinne! That's good, though I'm desperately hoping to hold out 2-3 more days before an actual LH surge. My body will cooperate. My body will cooperate. My body will cooperate.
  4. I've said it before, but this whole rolling deadline for papers thing (so far) is working out. It's certainly not cutting down on the overall amount of time I spend commenting on student work (if anything, I think I assigned more writing [combined, between the two classes] than I have in quite a while), but I have the energy to deal with 8 short papers a day or so, while I absolutely dread the stacks of 40 papers on the same piece of writing that come in on the same day. I think I'll need to use this strategy for my senior seminar next year as well.
  5. Oh, Marvelous Decaf Coffee, I will miss you when you are gone. Alas, you will be gone from my life in just over two weeks time.
