The DHEA Dance

"Hi, Gwinne. This is L from Dr. Gorgeous's office. I just wanted to let you know that we got some blood work back on you. Your testosterone level and free testosterone came back normal but your DHEA was a little bit high. Dr. Gorgeous wants you to lower your dose to 25 mg twice a day."

"Well, that's what I'm doing now. Would she want me to go down to 25 mg total?"

"Let me text her and I'll get back to you."

[An hour later]

"Hi, Gwinne. This is L from Dr. Gorgeous's again. She does want you to lower your dose."

"So how high was it anyway?"

"Well, usual goes from 20-200 [or something like that] and yours was 536. We like to see it at the higher end of normal, but not that high."

So I'm not quite sure what to do with this information. I mean, she didn't tell me to stop taking it altogether. And, really, I'm not having any side effects (that acne problem did indeed go away when I started using my own cleanser again, and all headaches coincide with my usual hormone induced headaches). I guess I listen to her. I'm just wondering if that means that DHEA supplementation isn't going to do me a darn bit of good because my DHEA level wasn't low in the first place...

But seriously, they need to stop using the words little bit to describe hormone levels. Grrr.
