My last year in graduate school, when I made the decision to become an SMC, I started buying baby clothes. Not much, and nothing expensive, just a small pile of onesies and socks I kept in my bedside table. I added to it slowly, buying a few outfits during my first months ttc. Eventually, LG wore every one of those pieces, and my fantasy became a reality.
For the past few days, I've been going through LG's closet and rubbermaid tubs full of kids' clothes. I've amassed three large garbage bags for donation, and I've given another few bags to friends with younger children (it's astonishing how many items of clothes a kid can go through in six years, and I certainly haven't kept everything!). I'd been saving them in the hopes that I'd put another child in them some day, but right now I value the closet space more than saving some money on a hypothetical child's wardrobe. What I've kept are those items that have real sentimental attachment or those clothes that just make my ovaries hurt they're so cute.
If I ever manage to conceive this second child, I don't want her/him to be a new version of LG. And I think I'll be so over-the-moon giddy I might actually want to shop for baby clothes again. There's a Carter's outlet between my house and Dr. Gorgeous' office. Maybe on Friday, if I actually get the all-clear to start the cycle, I'll pick up a package of white onesies for luck.
