I'm slightly less terrified today.  You'll laugh when I say why.

The breasts looked bigger this morning.  I've gained another pound (up to 102, if you're keeping track).  I've been incredibly nauseated right around breakfast for the past few days.  And my uterus is taking up too much space.  This is the one thing no one ever told me about and I have never seen described anywhere online or off, but it's a sensation I remember very well from early pregnancies past.  It's a weird discomfort, not painful, but I really don't want anything touching my lower abdomen right now and even then it's still there.  I think it's popped out over my pubic bone, a good 2 inches or so over my c-section scar.  And feels vaguely hard, contracted, which is frankly how my belly felt for most of pregnancy with LG (I had a ton of regular contractions, starting pretty early in the second trimester).  Something's going on in there.  Like a growing peanut, who by all accounts looks something like a small human this week.

The bottom line is I'm freaking huge.  Invested in a bella band thing (did those even exist in 2003?  if they did I didn't know about them) because I really truly can't button the pants I wear most of the time (by a good 3 inches).  And I'm thinking about renting a doppler; it seems some folks online have found heartbeats as early as 8 weeks.  I doubt it would work, as I know I have an anterior placenta going, but it might put me out of my misery.  I had one probably around 12 weeks with LG and used it until 20 or so, not daily but as a way to check in.  Live Baby Checks.  Yeah, I could use one of those.

  1. Great idea to get the doppler. At 102 pounds - it is hard to imagine that you are huge!- but I understand you may Feel huge! It is interesting - but somehow I also feel immense relief that my tits are so much bigger and hurt!

  2. Yay for feeling huge! Seriously glad that you're getting a bit of a break from the stress. Sounds to me like Peanut is settling in just fine, making him/herself comfortable and absolutely planning to stay awhile. And yeah - I second the 'get the doppler' advice. As long as you aren't going to freak out when you first get it if you're having a hard time finding the heartbeat - because you ARE very early. That said, I'm a good bit chubbier than you are, and I was able to find Henry's heartbeat by 10 or 11 weeks, easy-peasy, and it was the best thing I did for myself last year. Having a way to tone down the crazy-thoughts did wonders for my peace of mind.

  3. I'm holding off on the doppler decision at least through tomorrow. I'm hoping the NP does a heartbeat check or orders an ultrasound. Because really I can't wait another week for Dr. G to scan me...

  4. I've been such a horrible blogger/commenter lately...but was soooo thrilled to check in and see that things seem to be going along well!
Congrats again, and I can so empathize with the stress of the uncertainty of it all.

  5. This is all good! happy to hear you feeling a bit more upbeat. I am with you n the large uterus feeling. I was surprised at how uncomfortable I was with stuff pushing even slightly on my belly (wherever my uterus was as the weeks progressed), It got to the point where even my underwear was super uncomfortable...

  6. Oh, and the doppler. I rented one from Heartbeats at Home and was realy grateful for the peace of mind. I ended up using it less than I thought I would, but I am also one of those people who will eat less chocolate if Ihave it in the house... I know it is there if I need it so it calms the craving...

  7. It all sounds incredibly wonderful and positive! I wish someone would invent a portable at-home ultra sound machine. Seriously, you can take your blood pressure at home and they make dvd players the size of George Foreman machines. What gives? How much training do you really need to fish around in there and get a good picture? Hahaha....just wishing! Keep up the good attitude and hand in there!
