Increased Risk

History of recurrent pregnancy loss:  increased risk of miscarriage
Antiphospholipid antibody syndrome:  increased risk of miscarriage
Beta hcg levels failing to double:  increased risk of miscarriage
Heart rate low for gestational age:  increased risk of miscarriage
Small gestational sac:  increased risk of miscarriage

At what point does increased risk translate into definite loss?

  1. #1 - Stay away from Google.
#2 - Peanut had a twin so that explains the beta.
#3 - There's a book going around re: RPL (sorry - forget the title...but I can try to find it for you) and apparently very good and reassures that miscarriage, while common and normal, is not eternally reoccuring and it is normal and possible to go on and have a normal, healthy pregnancy.

  2. You were already in most of those categories BEFORE this pregnancy. And guess what, despite all those bad odds, it still worked. The important things about Peanut (HB, size) are great. Sometimes technology can work against us too. I'm not even sure most US techs even measure the sac. Maybe Dr. G is just too complete. You can call SIRM and get a free consult. They might be able to help. Sorry, just throwing it out there. It might make things worse too. Too many hands in the candy jar (is that even how it goes?)

  3. I know this is terrifying, and I'm sorry about it. You know, byt the way, that the measuring all has a big margin of error because it's hard to do, right? Not that that helps, but it's something to hold on to. I'm wishing you well and hoping you get unambiguous good news soon.

  4. Yeah, there's a margin of error of a few days/mm (for both sac and embryo). But it doesn't take an ultrasound tech to see that this baby is outgrowing its sac very rapidly.

  8. Thanks, Kristina. It is good to read about positive outcomes, and I'd certainly hope to beat the statistics on this one as well. I'm not counting on it, though.
