(post composed in the roughly 5 minutes I have left of my pumping session)
So, after he was sent home on Monday (for vomiting three times), Tiny Boy managed to nurse pretty much nonstop and make it through the night. Tuesday we went to the doctor (diagnosis: the ear infection that will not die [now on Zithromax] and probably the puking virus that is making the rounds. Prepare for diarrhea). All good until Tuesday, 10:00 pm, when he starts coughing and projectile vomits breastmilk all over my bedroom floor. Oh, yes, and me. Clean up, let him play with my office supplies while I email A. and Marvelous Mothers Helper to figure out a plan.
Tuesday night: repeat all-night nurse-a-thon and, again, no vomiting. Lethargic baby who sleeps until 7:30. No one I know can take him. Decide to keep him home. Cancel morning class. Contemplate Adrienne Pine. All fine at 11:30 so take him to daycare anyway. Go to afternoon class. Everything's a-okay again, until bedtime, when there is like half a gallon of breastmilk spewing out his nose and on the floor. Change sheets for the third time. Oh, yay. Rinse and repeat.
So basically he has a virus that causes him to vomit like every 20 hours or so? What the fuck?
That is, he's at daycare (I figure if I haven't caught it [despite swimming in his bodily fluids], LG hasn't caught it, "it" probably isn't the puking virus and he's not contagious). Bad mama, I know.

Well, it is now about nine hours after I started writing. LG is working on her homework and I'm ignoring the large pile of dishes in the sink. I have done about sixteen thousand loads of laundry since Monday, and that's only a slight exaggeration. What I haven't done: much of anything relating to writing and/or my courses. I mean, I did manage to do course prep for the course I didn't actually teach. Now there is a stack of writing for me to read. And classes to prep for next week. And a lot of other stuff. And yet I managed to show up to listen to a job candidate's talk today, mostly because I feel like there are so few women in my department that it would look better if I did; instead of taking notes toward questions, I wrote a draft of a poem. That's something, I suppose.
But the real question is: if I was totally undone by the first week, what the hell is going to happen later in the semester? Oy. I need a serious lesson in time management.

I am awaiting LG, whose "stummy" hurts, to begin puking, too. And for Tiny Boy's nightly spewing of breastmilk.
Now it's off to disaster that is my kitchen...

Big hugs. This too shall pass. (Possibly through TIny Boy's nose, but it'll pass.)
