Ask the Readers!

We're in a food rut.

I like reading cookbooks and hunting for recipes online (but also get really overwhelmed).

What are your favorite cookbooks?

Or specific recipes you really like (preferably that fall in the 15 minutes category)?

LG will try almost anything.  Tiny Boy is also fairly adventurous (he eats cold brussels sprouts for lunch!) but doesn't like mixed food (i.e. if I make a stew, he'll only eat it if I dissemble it and he refuses soup, which makes me sad).

  1. Here's our post on the topic: http://nicoleandmaggie.wordpress.com/2013/01/16/cookbooks-we-have-loved/#comments

And for you, we recommend the books by Kevin and Nancy Mills. :) That Indian cookbook is also fast and easy.

  2. Yes, I read those a while back, after your post! Maybe I'll get them out of the library again...

  3. Vegetarian times is hit or miss but the hits are really good. Wait and read the online reviews to avoid the really spectacular misses.

http://www.amazon.com/Spices-50-Dishes-Simple-Recipes/dp/081185342X this book is also pretty good and mostly simple.

  4. We love this one:

Tiny Boy might not be a fan, since a lot of the dishes are one-pot ones. But I love that it's lots of easy, yummy, healthy meals, and most don't require fancy ingredients. My main strategy is to cook a big batch of something from here on Sunday nights and then eat the leftovers for several nights the following week.

  5. Sometimes (OK, most times) I try to get over the "rush" problem by cooking the night before for the next night ... it also takes the "what do I make for dinner" question off the table, because it's been made. ;) But I love the Madhur Jaffrey book, too. And anything by Heidi Swanson.

  6. Things that work for us:
    -having sausages once a week.
-cooking a big batch of something so we can have it again in a couple of nights.
I love Donna Hay recipes - I've only ever had one fail on me.
Also, the Stone Soup blog has recipes that are all quick and simple, although occasionally a little spicy for our littlies

  7. Thanks, y'all. Keep the suggestions coming!

I do tend to cook ahead, as much as I can (mostly weekends, and sometimes if I'm home working during the day). And cook things that can be used two ways (like a batch of meat sauce for pasta turns into chili later in the week). I don't know all those cookbooks/bloggers so will check them out.
