Spring break next week--amen. What's even better than the break is realizing we're at the tipping point past midterm.
I was permitted to sleep last night. (Just two wake ups, roughly 3 and 5?) So while I'm tired, that's enough to think straight. Hoping my mother is okay with the hotel plan, or at least bed-swapping, so she's the one who needs to deal with him.
Today I need to (a)read the rest of the contest submissions I've been putting off, (b) prep for a reading I'm doing on Monday (yes, I somehow managed to agree to do three events within eight days), (c) read the rest (or at least some) of the journal submissions for review, (d) write up course descriptions for next fall, (e) read and score grant proposals, (f) read scholarship apps, (g) comment on my own students' work, and (h) go to a massage appointment (yay!).
That's a lot. If I get all this done today then I can actually have something resembling an actual break. Monday will still be eaten up by the reading (it's about 1.5 hrs away, so that's 3 hrs in the car right there), and I'll need to be in touch with a few guest writers about our big showcase week. But the rest of my job can be put on hold. There's a lot of domestic stuff I'd like to do, mostly phone calls to set up home repairs, getting photos in albums (the thing I perpetually never get to), deep cleaning. Also lunch/coffee with friends I rarely see. And Friday will be an LG-and-Mom day (my compromise for not taking her with me to an upcoming conference).
So I'd better get started.
