Because Friday was a day off school for LG and also my spring break, we hung out for the day. She went with me to yoga. We went to the mall to buy her new shoes (this wasn't a girlie thing...her shoes were literally falling apart at the seams), had lunch, and saw Cinderella (her choice). She was pleasant and generally fun to hang out with.
Today LG declined to go with Tiny Boy and me to the park. Then she had a skating lesson and birthday party. That added up to about five hours of just me and him. We went to my office to drop some things off. We went to the children's museum (aka 'the museum with blue foam blocks'). He was pleasant and generally fun to hang out with.
The other parts of the weekend, the ones in which LG and Tiny Boy squabbled about toys and were generally loud and defiant, I could have done without. Other than the half an hour today during which time they worked on a habitat for a recently adopted caterpillar (how a caterpillar managed to survive in a sandbox requires some googling I haven't done) they weren't agreeable with each other. The squabbling, unfortunately, is pretty much the norm.
And it occurred to me that although I love my two children separately--and equally--I don't enjoy their company as a duo very often. I cherish the videos I have of them performing and snuggling, but remembering their childhoods that way isn't exactly accurate. Not sure what to do about this realization, but there it is.

I concur completely. There are moments when they are cute & lovey and playing together but they fight 99.9% of the time and its stressful and exhausting. One on one is SO MUCH BETTER. I thought it was because they were so close in age and still so young (i.e. hoping desperately that they'd grow out of it), but I guess not...
