It occurred to me that when LG was maybe 3.5 I started bringing her downstairs to watch TV on a weekend morning, with a bowl of cheerios or something, and going back upstairs to sleep. She knew she could come get me if she really needed something, but I told her not to call. She wasn't a kid who realy got into stuff. She wasn't a climber. It would not have occurred to her to get somethint out of the fridge, much less a baby-locked cabinet. It worked. And I'm not sure why I was so tired back then (although this worked really well in the era of progesterone supplementation that followed) but I often fell back to sleep for another hour or more.
Tiny Boy is 3.25. So this morning when it became clear that hauling all the blankets and animals from his room to my room was not about sleep, I brought him downstairs, put on Dolphin Tale and gave him a bowl of cheerios. In the meantime, LG woke up and joined him, and clearly I'm not falling back to sleep, but there's a spark of possibility here for another day.
In the meantime: looking forward to actually getting in to the sleep specialist (no, still working on that) and having three nights of kid=free sleep at an upcoming conference.
