My Insomniac Children

My mother likes to talk about how I didn't nap as a baby.  (Sound familiar?)

I've been an insomniac since the age of 10.  So new mommy sleep deprivation sleep is actually in some ways BETTER than my usual sleep.  (Not tonight.)

But I am ready to put my children on Ambien.  (Do they make Ambien for kids?)

In all seriousness, I think I'm taking Tiny Boy to the ped this week because it's an understatement to say he's not sleeping.  I think he's healthy, but the longest stretch he's gone in the past 24 hours is, I think, 40 minutes.  (But I'm sure now he will sleep for the rest of the night because Tiny Boy likes to prove me wrong once I make a declaration on the internet.)  A lot of whimpery I'm-trying-to-sleep-but-can't noises coming from the crib and a sitting up or rocking on all fours baby.

And LG is just plain obstinate and fails to see how reading after bedtime might make it difficult to fall asleep.

To my sister-in-law who thinks waking every 2-4 hours with a newborn is tough, I say, fuck you.  Let's trade nephews for one night and see who comes out on top.

  3. That is pretty much why we don't cosleep. Because no matter how much my chipper idiot friends tell me it would improve my sleep life, every time we try it, I am up every half an hour. I hope TB snaps out of it, and soon.

  4. Doesn't seem to matter if he's in my bed or not. He does slightly better in the crib, I think, in terms of being able to put himself back to sleep without my breast. But last night was just brutal.

I called the ped's office...I'll see what they say about melatonin or other fixes.

  5. I would be insane with the lack of sleep. I do hope there are some answers for you soon. This situation is unbearable.

  6. Oh wow, gwinne, that's got to be tough. We have been pretty fortunate with our twin boys in this regard (though they had a restless night last night, due to having their first colds).

Your post made me laugh because my husband and I have also joked about "Ambien for babies" before. ;-)
