I told you I don't believe in CIO.
WIO--Whimper It Out--is another story entirely.
Tiny Boy whimpered himself back to sleep several times last night in the crib. Never escalated to actual crying, so I left him there to figure it out on his own. Which he did.
And I've got him there now for a nap, as he didn't fall asleep with the usual rocking/boobing method. If he's not out in another 10 minutes I'll get him and try more proactive methods, as I don't want his "schedule" (such as it is) to be entirely disrupted by a protracted stint of rolling around in the crib. But if he's going to actively CRY when I'm holding him, well, he might as well sniffle and whimper and try to get himself to sleep.
Perhaps he's been trying to tell me that co-sleeping isn't for him. Baby led sleep training, anyone?
Let you know how it goes.

Excellent! The bean definitely started doing this at some point and preferred it to falling asleep nursing. Still does, mostly. (full disclosure, he ostill sometimes cries for a couple of minutes, but not all the time and usually only if overtired.)
ReplyDeleteI saw the title of your post and thought, whine it out! That must be where I am now. G's discovered how to whine and it makes my skin crawl. Anyway, I'm glad that WIO worked! I hope it continues!!
ReplyDeleteHa! He's definitely not whining yet, but he certainly has a temper if he doesn't get what he wants!
ReplyDeleteI call it FIO for "fuss it out" ;) I feel your pain!! Sleep Tiny Boy, sleep!
