The 987,547th (At least) Post About Sleep

So, that whole new schedule Tiny Boy worked out?  He seems to have amended it, without my permission.  Still mostly waking 2-3.  But that's coupled by protracted wakefulness (like, 1.5-2 hrs worth, for no apparent* reason other than HUNGER and I do think it's HUNGER, as he'll nurse on both sides and then suck down a 4 ounce bottle and once he's done that go back to sleep contentedly) and/or early waking.  Which is to say, frankly, worse than just waking every two hours all fucking night long.  (But not as bad as waking every 40 minutes all fucking night long, which he has done, so I do recognize good thing here.)

Example: this morning he woke for the first time at 3:00, I think, and nursed for maybe fifteen minutes but then by 4:00 was crying again and nursed until 4:30 and then was still awake by 6:00 and fucking CRABBY because he was tired.  And I was, too, if you couldn't tell.

And now I need to write a poem.  Because it's National Poetry Month.  Not because I really want to.

* There might be another unapparent reason.  But he's not ear tugging or biting like he's teething or coughing or anything obvious to the maternal senses.  Or using any of his words to say anything other than MIL MIL MIL and BA-UL BA-UL.

  1. I swear you are a saint. My kid woke up at 6.30 this morning and I was annoyed because usually he sleeps until 7 or after. How you remain functional and have not totally lost your mind is a testament to your internal fortitude. But seriously, this little one needs to give mommy a break.

  2. Well, not really. I just figure if I've had insomnia since childhood why would I expect a 1-year-old to sleep any better than his mother?

    Thinking of you.

  3. I have forgotten if you've written about what solids Boy is eating, but I remember Sprogblogger went through a period where Hen was sleeping badly and turned out he wasn't eating enough food during the day. Just a thought. Otherwise I have no clue. Hope it gets better! :)

  4. Aysha, he's an erratic table food eater, to be sure. He's never eaten a lot and used to be a very heavy night-nurser, so this is a big shift for him. I'm sure he's not making up for the calories during the day, esp. at dinner (which he really doesn't eat). But there's only so much I can do...

  5. I know how hard it is to get kids to eat table food. My twins were preemie and have sensory probs, and they're still on mostly pureed foods at 2.5 yrs. lol-but you can bet that I fill them up as much as I can with that so it helps them sleep. Best of luck with your precious kids!
