(oh, the phone conversations since Wednesday...)
Nurse #1: The doctor would like you to try a hybrid Femara-Menopur protocol.
Me: I'm really apprehensive about adding an injectable, as I already ovulate early in my cycle. I'm not clear on how that would work, since I ovulate before I'd be finishing the medication, at least according to the information sheet I was given.
Nurse #2: Yeah, that's really not a question I can answer. Let's set up an appointment so you can talk to the doctor.
Me: What's the usual dose of Menopur?
Nurse #2: Oh, we'd put you on the lowest possible dose. 1 vial.
Me: In the past I've only used 1/2 amp.
Nurse #2: Well, that shouldn't be a problem. I'll talk to the doctor.
Nurse #1: There's a note in your chart from Nurse #2 that says you'd need to up your dosage of Femara in order for the injectable to work correctly.
Me: I'm really apprehensive about that, as I already surge as early as day 8.
Nurse #1: Well we could back down on the drugs if it looks like you're producing too many.
Me: No, that's not the point. I don't think I'd produce multiple eggs. I think it would make me ovulate even earlier. I've always been on the lowest possible dose of drugs and *still* surge as early as day 8. Maybe I should just stick with the Femara and talk to her about doing hybrid for the next cycle.
Nurse #1: Okay, I'll talk to the doctor and see what she says. I'll call you back later today.
Argh! Which part of "ovulating too early" are they not getting?
You could try adding Ganirelix or Lupron to prevent ovulation. I'm not sure how expensive that would be, though.
ReplyDeleteThanks, Pepper. I'll ask my RE about that.
