So one of my plans this summer was to take LG on various short road trips, to get to know New State, which isn't really so new (we've been here 4 years now). Between the miscarriage drama and the family drama and the ttc stuff, this hasn't happened. After her swimming lesson today, we just got in the car and drove north. Then we drove east. Our destination (based purely on name) turned out to be a major bust. We ended up driving about 90 miles, only to have lunch THE NEXT TOWN OVER. We could have gone to a child-friendly spot, such as a zoo, or a museum, or a water park. But I really just wanted to find a small town and walk around and check it out. I wanted to do something different, not the same old things in a new place.
LG said our trip was boring. But then she explained that's not bad, Mom. We talked as I drove. We bought cream soda at a rest stop. (She loved it.) We went to a new restaurant for lunch, and tried new things. Then I told her we could drive somewhere else (she'd realized we were back in our own town) or go to the park or something. She chose the lake (new for me, not for her). She bought herself a SnoCone.
My head is throbbing (I think the NuvaRing is finally getting to me, as I have been eating like a saint) but, still, it's been a really fabulous day, just enjoying being with my kid. Not doing errands. Not running around. Just doing what we felt like doing. Next time, we'll actually consult a map.
Sounds like a lovely day. I remember long drives with my mom. They are something I treasure.
