It occurred to me the other day that some of my anxiety surrounding this IVF has to do with trust. I'm used to doing things on my own (I'm a single mother by choice!). And this whole IVF cycle? Completely outside my control. When I was doing IUIs, I had enough knowledge and enough experience to ask questions and mitigate potential problems. Now? I have to believe, I have to trust, that Dr. Gorgeous has set up a protocol that is in my best interest. And while I know that there's a lot of guesswork involved, I also know that 90% of the decisions she's made for me so far have been good ones. I guess that is to say, I trust her.

Everything was fine with ultrasound and bloodwork today, so I'm starting Gonal F and Menopur tonight. In less than a month, I could be pregnant...
WOOHOO! Here's hoping that this is your month!
ReplyDeleteIt always helped me to remember that Drs have a vested interest in getting their patients to a successful pregnancy. The field of RE is so competitive, and their success rate is so easily researchable - thanks to SART - that they want us to get pregnant ASAP almost as much as we want to get pregnant.
It helped me, sometimes, to remember that when I was feeling particularly paranoid and mistrustful.
it is hard to trust the unknown when you have no way to control it. it's one thing i wish i'd mastered!
ReplyDeleteThat's a good reminder, Sprogblogger--thanks! Actually, when I was first talking to Dr. G about doing IVF she was discussing some of her protocol choices and saying things like "I just don't want to change X--we have SUCH good pregnancy rates"!
