There's an opportunity for summer teaching (next year) that I'd really like to jump at. But if I conceive in the next few cycles, I'd have to back out. And if I don't conceive in the semi-near future and find myself looking at donor egg next summer, I'm not sure I'd be able to do it. But, damn, the money could help... I've deliberately avoided summer school for the past two summers because both writing time and ttc time were priorities. But in a potentially post-tenure, pre-sabbatical world? Well, it might just be the thing to do.
I think maybe I ask Best Professor Friend what she thinks, but I think I'm going to toss my name in.
My unsolicited advice? Throw your hat in the ring. Because one thing I learned during my 24-month journey to any sort of pregnancy was that life (especially professional life) keeps moving along, and it's much easier to deal with conflicts or suboptimal timing issues when they actually arise than it is to worry about not causing the conflicts way in the future.
ReplyDeleteLong way of saying -- do it! Sounds exciting!
I agree -- put your name in for it. So what if you have to back out?
