Back to Reality

I didn't make up that thing about 18. Really. I asked for the number. And I saw the tech write down: LO 10, RO 8.

But today? The usual tech got a usual count on me: 10 total (7 left, 3 right). Apparently they "count a little differently over there [at IVF clinic]."

I've come crashing back to the reality of IVF and my body. Fully expecting this thing to get converted to IUI. But I'd still like the opportunity to try...

Updated at 4:08: Although the cyst is smaller (yahoo!), my E2 level went up today (87). Dr. Gorgeous is letting me start the cycle, with the understanding that it might very well end up as an IUI. She's having me ship my specimen to her office, not the IVF clinic, which I don't take as a positive sign. Anyway...I start microdose lupron tonight and Follistim tomorrow, back for monitoring on Saturday. I wonder when the universe might decide to cut me some slack. I could use a big good thing.

  1. Ten is great! Stop stressing yourself out. (I know that's a tall order.) I only had around ten when I got pregnant the first time. They only got like 7 eggs and only 3 made it to transfer. And they were three pretty crummy embryos. Tons of fragmentation. One 6 cell and two 4 cells on a three day transfer Not really what you want. Tried to convince my RE that we should just freeze them and not torture ourselves with a 2 week wait. But it worked and my son is amazing! I wouldn't trade him for anything.

And as I told you before with my current pregnancy I only grew 4 eggs and only had two embryos at transfer. And it worked! I'm 22 weeks along.

Hang in there. All you need is one good one and the good ones are growing right now.

  2. Thanks, Gwynn. Unfortunately I've been down this road before; my last IVF, of 10 antrals, I ended up with 7 follicles, 4 eggs, only 2 mature. I'm hoping that taking Menopur out of the equation helps, but the elevated E2 and cyst hasn't gotten this off to a good start...

  3. here from LFCA -- i just did an IVF cycle with a starting E2 of 74, over my clinic's limit of 55. (i have several large endometriomas that keep my E2 high, but this was high even for me.)

    32 eggs retrived.
    knocked up now. ;)

if your doc is ok with the E2, i wouldn't worry over it.

    best of luck!
