Dear Dr. Gorgeous

Dear Dr. Gorgeous,

When you told me after the hysteroscopy that my lining was thin and not to expect any more than light spotting, I prepared myself to play a rousing game of "is it cd 1?" (you know, the one where you stare at a piece of toilet paper wondering if that particular splot of red is sufficient enough to be called "full flow" or if it's simply one of those random spotty rorschach blots that your body spits out a few days ahead of time). After all, when you told me prior to loss #2 that it would be REALLY bad, you highly overestimated the experience (or perhaps you've never had a D&C or given birth to your entire endometrium in one fell swoop). I mean, just because you're double board certified in REI and ob/gyn, you don't necessarily know what bad menstrual experiences are.

So last night, when I saw that first crescent moon of blood on the toilet paper, I thought surely I'd have to call your office in the morning and explain the entire situation to one of the nurses and convince her that yes, I really do need to come in for baseline monitoring. I thought maybe that was the extent of the "light spotting." After all, I didn't bleed a single drop after the hysteroscopy, and usually my cervix just looks at a speculum and starts shedding. But this process has taught me only to expect the unexpected, so like a good little fertility patient, I lined my underwear with a super-absorbent all-cotton sanitary pad before I went to bed.

Let's just say there's no question about whether or not it's cd 1. Never underestimate my ability to bleed.

fondly,
gwinne
