Random Bullets of Winter Break

  • I have not done anything resembling work, beyond checking email, since I submitted grades and finished syllabi (more or less) last week. It's been really nice just hanging out with LG and my mom.
  • At her request, we've gone to Burger King (for the play area), the library, the bowling alley, the paint-your-own pottery place, and the worst movie ever (Yogi Bear). Today we're going back to the library for some kind of Lego activity. Tomorrow we're actually getting our pictures taken professionally (I have not EVER done this for LG, other than school photos, which we skipped this year).
  • I organized my recipes and 3 years worth of family photos. Unfortunately I didn't actually go through the pictures before we ordered prints, and it turns out I got about 50-75 duplicates. I'm sure LG's great grandmother will appreciate whatever we send her way.
  • I've been playing in the kitchen. I've made gumbo, thai curry, and the best arroz con pollo I've done in a while (I added sausage). LG has requested spring rolls, which I'm going to try to do wheat-free, with a rice wrapper. I also found a recipe for coconut milk hot chocolate, which seems worth making when I'm feeling self-indulgent.
  • This break has not been kind to me in terms of my physical being. In addition to some really wicked insomnia, I have whacked my head so hard that I probably should have gotten a CAT scan (oh well) and sliced my index finger almost to the bone (no I didn't go to urgent care for that one either).
  • The negative beta crabiness settled in yesterday. When I started crying at the dinner table spontaneously I almost caved and told LG. I'm awaiting a phone call from Dr. Gorgeous's office to find out if she's willing to chat with me over the phone some time in the next few days. Because I feel like I can't make any decision about what to do now without knowing what March/April will bring. Maybe I really just do need to do one more IVF to prove it to myself that my body just can't do it...
  • Sometimes, I look around my house and think how amazingly far I've come in ten years, since I was applying for jobs and thinking about having a kid on my own. I have a good life, people, I recognize that. But I want so much more.

  1. My doctors advised me to consider how I would feel 5-10 years down the line about the decision I made on DE. I am sure they posed the same to you. It is a tough decision and it takes some time to get there.
