Let the panic begin

So about an hour after my consult with Dr. Gorgeous, I emailed the donor coordinator woman to set up an initial consult. (Dr. Gorgeous doesn't actually use her own donors but works exclusively with a local agency, and the cost ends up being pretty much the same as it would other places with in-house donors--Dr. Slideshow, for instance.) It looks like we'll be meeting the first week in January--I didn't even ask about meeting sooner, given the holidays and LG's school break and my current cycle--and she sent me about a zillion documents to read through, including a 24 page contract. I've got an other zillion documents from Dr. Gorgeous, and let's just say I'm overwhelmed. In practical terms, this probably isn't going to be that much more complicated than a standard IVF cycle; I just need to meet with a lawyer and a psychologist (and I'm assuming mine will work fine, since Dr. Gorgeous is the one who gave me her name) and choose the donor and probably redo my infectious disease testing since I think it hasn't been done since 2009 (oops). And all the usuals of medication ordering and so forth. But, wow, I'm panicky.

It's the same kind of panicky I remember feeling when I was about to embark on IVF back in 2003. Which, fortunately, I didn't need to do as I ended up with a positive pregnancy test the day after my consult. I just don't see myself getting so lucky this time.

Can I just say that fertile coupled people really have no fucking clue how easy they have it?

Now I'm going to go deal with LG, who has been vomiting since about 4:30 this morning, which I'm hoping just means that she ate something she's allergic to, because I really don't need to start vomiting myself.

There's no reason to think about any of this stuff, is there? The plan is in motion. I don't need to think about it. Right?

  1. Wow. Buckle up, the ride is about to begin!

The paper work is overwhelming at first. I found that once we had our agency set, they kind of hand held us through the whole process. I even screwed up a couple things and they bent over backwards to make it happen. They are your advocates. You can count on them.

I would love to help if I could in any way. Please don't hesitate to reach out to me. No question is too personal. Remember, bloggers have a wide, wide boundary...

  2. I hope LG is feeling better.

Yes, this whole process is overwhelming especially when we do not have DH.. but I know you can do it. The IVF consent was overwhelming for me too.. then I realized that every other page just repeats itself to protect all parties.

  3. Thank you so much, Roccie!

Yes, Baby Chase, she is doing better, thanks. Though I expect she's braindead after watching 7 hours of TV! Ugh. Need to go feed her something.

  4. Thinking of you Gwinne! I guess it's best to take it one little step at a time, kind of like doing a dissertation... This is pretty exciting I must say. But I still have my fingers crossed you'll get that BFP.
