And Now For Something a Bit Lighter

Tiny Boy's language development is not great.  I don't think it's a problem...but compared to LG who was speaking in sentences and telling "stories" by eighteen months, well, he's nowhere near that.  But he's acquiring more words and certainly finds ways to communicate his desires.

Tonight we were sitting in the rocking chair going through a protracted bedtime ritual.  I started singing--and I have to confess I am a TERRIBLE singer--and Tiny Boy started waving his hands in the air like he was at a concert or something.  When I finished, he clapped his hands and said "mama, mo [signing more] ahahaha."  More singing?  Well okay then.

Tiny Boy, for the record, I'd like mo sleeping.

  1. OMG that is so cute. You probably know this already, but I believe boys acquire language, on average, slower than girls...

  3. Your neighborhood linguist dropping by to say, his language development sounds NORMAL, just skewed by the fact that LGs was ADVANCED (and that boys do tend to lag behind girls, on average). The thing I love best about having by background and being a parent is knowing that kids with WILDLY different patterns of acquisition can end up in exactly the same place. Takes the pressure off.

However, I bet you didn't really want a lesson about things you already know from some officious PERSON. You wanted to share your adorable moment, and it's a good one.

  4. Hey, Bunny...so I completely freaked out upon reading that 18 month olds should have 50 words (?!). Does that sound right? He has maybe 20 used pretty regularly...

  5. Right there with you. Leah was a chatter box and Jay keeps it pretty quiet. Lots of chatter, just dont have a clue what it means.
