Embryo Donation (Redux)

So it turns out the agency thing is because she doesn't want to get sucked into a legal mess.  Which I totally get.

And her concern with Miracles Waiting--tell me if this is wrong--is that it's simply a matching service but doesn't handle the legal shenanigans.

I don't need a matching service, if my goal is to donate to one of her patients.  And she says she has suitable patients.  Maybe I just need to get back in touch with the lawyer who did up my DE contract and see if she'd be willing to do this?

It's not that I don't want to donate to an SMC.  I'd be way happy to donate to a prospective SMC.  But really I don't want this to be a personal thing at all.  Really I don't want to make any choices about where these embryos go, other than, yeah, I don't want to go through an agency that makes me feel icky because their practices are (a) unnecessarily expensive and capitalizing on folks' suffering, (b) discriminatory, (c) philosophically objectionable.

Much to think about I suppose.

In the meantime, I leave you with a photo of Tiny Boy's first foray into intentional TV.  He sure is LG's sibling:

  1. What a handsome fella. I do hope that there is an easy path to get those embryos to the right people. I am sure that it will fall in line somewhow. And at just the right time for the right person waiting for their own baby.

  2. Love the expression on his face! LOL Such a cutie.

Good luck with finding a good way to donate your embryos. I don't like the sound of the agency she uses, either.

  3. Miracles Waiting is just a matching service. They do nothing other than provide a forum for people to post profiles and find one another. I am not sure there is an agency out there that would coordinate all the legal stuff and choose the recipients that doesn't treat it as adoption (and is Christian based).

Your lawyer should be able to draw up a contract that relinquishes your ownership of them.

    Good luck!

  4. Yeah...I know I can't imagine what this choice is like but I also really can't imagine signing the god talk contract.

  5. Niobe from deadbabyjokes sent me over here. I'm Rachel from http://henry-street.blogspot.com. We just went through a failed match for a second adoption and the idea of embryo donation crossed my mind. We explored it for kid #1 and didn't think it was for us for many of the same reasons you seem to not like agencies. #1 the agencies "moral values" (ahem) and the ridiculous costs involved. Anyway, I don't know if we are actually going to *do* embryo adoption but I just wanted to say hi and that we're here and I don't know what. Hi. I would have liked to have emailed this but I didn't see an email address on your profile. Nice to meet you.
